Campus Dean Meet/Greet - Dr. Jimmie Bruce (20211014-00010)

Dr. Jimmie Bruce is an experienced leader with a demonstrated 33-year history of working as a faculty member and senior-level administrator in higher education at multiple community colleges. Skilled in enrollment management and distance learning as well as leading academic and student affairs. Dr. Bruce, working with others, has had success with continuously improving student success as measured by key performance indicators. He currently is working as an adjunct professor at Pace University in the Masters of Higher Education and Student Affairs program and teaches communication for Ranger College in Texas. Dr. Bruce was the President of Eastern Gateway Community College, in Steubenville and Youngstown, Ohio from 2015 until 2020. During his time at EGCC, the college enrollment increased 800 percent going from 3,000 students to over 28,000. He also helped bring new programs and services to the college that included a CDL Trucking School, a regional workforce training center, and an advanced manufacturing program. He also started a collaborative online program with public unions and enrolled students from all 50 states and Canada. From 2006 to 2015, Dr. Bruce served as Vice President of Academic Success at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Texas -- One of five Alamo Colleges serving the greater San Antonio area. He was also the Chief Student Affairs Officer at Northwest Vista for four years during a time where the college was the fastest growing college in the United States. He also served as a tenured faculty member, division chair and administrator for thirteen years at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College. Dr. Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. During his 33 years in higher education, he has served on various boards and councils, the Rotary Club of San Antonio and Steubenville, the Mahoning Valley Manufacturer’s Coalition, and the Chamber of Commerce in Elizabethtown, KY Jefferson County, OH and Youngstown, OH. He has also been active with the United Way in every community where he has lived. He currently lives in Youngstown, OH with his wife Cindi and their beloved Pomeranian, Ellie. He enjoys reading, golfing, and picking his guitar.
